Hanalei Bay Wedding Photography

Hanalei Bay on Kauai’s north shore is two miles of golden-sand crescent backed by 3,500-foot mountains. It looks unreal. The weddings here feel unreal too.

North Shore Drama

Hanalei Bay: the most cinematic beach in Hawaii

Hanalei sits on Kauai’s rainy north shore — lush, dramatic, and far less developed than Oahu or Maui. The bay itself is a perfect crescent, framed by the Namolokama mountains rising straight out of the jungle. Princeville Resort sits on the cliff to the east. The town of Hanalei is a single main street of surf shops and farm-to-table restaurants.

Hanalei weddings have a wildness to them that the other islands can’t match. The light is moodier, the mountains are bigger, and the chance of a passing rainshower mid-ceremony is real — we always plan a buffer. Most ceremonies happen at the western end of the bay or up at Princeville with the bay below.

FAQ

Hanalei Bay wedding questions, answered

When is the best season for a Hanalei wedding?

May through October is the driest. November through March can be beautiful but brings frequent rainshowers — we always plan a 30-minute timeline buffer.

Can we get married on Hanalei Bay beach?

Yes, with a DLNR permit. The western end of the bay (near Hanalei Pier) is the most popular spot — it’s wider, less crowded, and frames the mountains beautifully.

What about Princeville Resort weddings?

Princeville (now 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay) is the cliff-side option overlooking the bay. They handle permits and have their own ceremony lawns with sweeping views.

How far is Hanalei from the airport?

About 45 minutes from Lihue Airport. Most destination couples stay in or near Hanalei for the week to avoid the drive.
