Where most Hawaii weddings begin

Oahu is the most accessible of the Hawaiian Islands — the largest airport, the widest range of venues, the easiest logistics for guests flying in from the mainland. It’s also where you’ll find the most variety: white-sand crescents on the east side, dramatic west-side cliffs, lush valleys in the interior, and the iconic stretch of Waikiki. We shoot weddings and engagement sessions across all of it.

Whether you’re planning a beach elopement at Waimanalo, a resort wedding at Turtle Bay, a ranch ceremony at Kualoa, or a private estate celebration anywhere in between, this island has a frame for you. Below is our Oahu work plus everything we tell couples planning a wedding here.

Getting married on Oahu: what to know

East vs west side

East-side beaches (Lanikai, Waimanalo, Kailua) shine at sunrise. West-side beaches (Ko Olina, Maili) shine at sunset. Pick your side by the light you want.

Permits

Hawaii state requires a permit for any beach ceremony. Application takes 2–4 weeks, costs around $130. We’ll guide you through DLNR paperwork.

Resort vs public beach

Resorts (Turtle Bay, Four Seasons Ko Olina) handle permits + setup. Public beaches are stunning but DIY. Each has its trade-offs.

Traffic

Honolulu rush hour is real. We always build buffer for getting around the island, especially for weddings with split timing or location swaps.

FAQ

Oahu wedding questions, answered

What are the best Oahu wedding venues?

Popular picks include Kualoa Ranch (mountain backdrop), Turtle Bay Resort (north shore), Lanikai Beach (sunrise ceremonies), Ko Olina (west-side sunset), and Waimanalo Beach. We can recommend based on guest count and vibe.

Can you shoot on a public Oahu beach?

Yes, with a Hawaii state permit. We help couples through the DLNR application as part of the booking process.

How early should we book an Oahu wedding photographer?

6–12 months ahead is typical, longer for peak season (April–October). Hawaii is on our travel list so we plan flights early.

Do you photograph sunrise weddings on Oahu?

Yes. East-side beaches like Lanikai are spectacular at sunrise (usually 6:00–6:45 a.m. depending on season). We arrive in time to scout light.

Do you charge extra for Oahu travel?

Hawaii is on our travel list, so many packages include flights and lodging. Send dates for a travel-inclusive quote.
